Prof. Dr. Oliver Koch studierte von 1991 bis 1997 Wirtschaftswissenschaften mit Schwerpunkt Wirtschaftsinformatik an der Philipps-Universität Marburg. Er promovierte 2009 im Fachbereich Wirtschaftsinformatik zum Thema “Informationslogistische Konzeption einer kontextorientierten Informationsversorgung in medizinischen Behandlungsprozessen”

Nach Abschluss seines Studium arbeitete Prof. Koch zunächst als IT-Consultant bei dem internationalen Beratungsunternehmen Steria Mummert. Anschließend war er für die Strategische Unternehmensentwicklung bei der TÜV Mitte AG und dem Internet-Startup infoball zuständig.

2003 wechselte Prof. Koch zum Fraunhofer-Institut für Software- und Systemtechnik (ISST). Er baute dort eine Abteilung mit zuletzt 9 Mitarbeitern und einem jährlichen Drittmittelvolumen von über 1 Mio. Euro auf. Der Fokus der Forschungsaktivitäten der Abteilung liegt im Bereich Informationslogistik, webbasierte telemedizinische Anwendungen und mobile eHealth-Anwendungen (digitale Begleiter). Prof. Koch leitete das Smart Health Lab des Fraunhofer ISST und ist Geschäftsfeldleiter Health & Care im inHaus-Zentrum der Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in Duisburg. Zusätzlich war er als Lehrbeauftragter für die Fachhochschule für Oekonomie und Management (FOM) in Essen tätig.

Im Januar 2012 erhielt Prof. Koch einen Ruf als Professor an die Hochschule Ruhr West in Bottrop. Sein Lehrgebiet umfasst die Bereiche eHealth, Ambient Assisted Living (AAL), Smart Living und Wirtschaftsinformatik.
